Tough As Leather: Five Rockers In London Pose For A Portrait, 1966

Via: natgeofound

Five "rockers" wearing studded leather jackets and officer caps pose for a portrait in London, 1966. In June of that year, National Geographic photographer James Blair captured this image of the motorcycle club members during the British conflict between "mods" and "rockers", youth subcultures at odds with each other throughout the first half of the 1960's.

Mods identified with fashion and alternative music, often riding scooters and wearing suits. Rockers preferred motorcycles and 1950's rock & roll, with leather outfits complementing their mode of transportation.
